Of the larger public sector organisations sickness rates are highest for those working in the health sector Sickness rates vary within the public sector and focusing on the larger organisations those working in a Health authority or NHS trust continuously had the greatest sickness absence rate throughout the 2003 to 2013 period, with around 3.4% of workers’ hours lost to sickness in 2013. This compares with rates of around 3% in Central Government and 2.7% in Local Government.
